Graduating Flyers Moving Up The Ranks
Like all good hockey programs, developing players to reach their full potential with the opportunity to compete at a higher level is the measuring stick of a hockey organizations success. You ultimately want to keep your players, however, realisticly, turnover is a fact of Jr. C and Flyers are no different. This year, three Flyer players are moving on in their hockey development. Matt Quilty, the teams leading scorer as a 16 year old, last week signed with the Brantford Golden Eagles Jr. B, Tommy Tsicos, signed with the Toronto Canadiens Jr. A and team captain, Brady Sluman has signed a minor pro contract with expansion team, Lapeer in the All American Hockey League (AAHL). The Flyers organization wishes Matt, Tommy and Brady all the best in their future hockey aspirations and will be following their accomplishments as the season progresses.

Midland Flyers opened up the 2010/2011 season with a 6-4 road win in Schomberg on Thursday night. It wasn't the prettiest of games, however, the Flyers fought back from a two goal deficet early and managed to carve out a 3-2 first period lead. There was no scoring in the 2nd, however, a spirited tilt between Flyers defenceman Dylan Duivenvoorden and Brandon Lisi seemed to get the Flyers wheels in motion. Scoring for the Flyers were Jason Leigh with two goals and a helper, Tyler Shibley with a goal and an assist and singles from C J Cook, Kevin Baker and Ryan Stapleton with the game winner.
Kelsey's Flyers Win Home OpenerOn Friday night, Midland Kelsey's Flyers continued their winning ways with a late goal by Tyler Shibley to give the Midland Kelsey's Flyers a 3-2 victory over the Stayner Siskins. It was the second win in as many nights after opening the season with a win in Schomberg. Other scorers were Cody Beasley and Donnovan Grubb. Simon Huften had two assists and Shibley added an assist as well. Jacob Schandlen got the win for the Kelsey's Flyers. On Sunday afternoon, the Cougars gained their revenge for Thursday's loss and defeated the Kelsey's Flyers 3-2 in a shootout. Tyler Shibley scored both Kelsey's Flyer goals and Robbie Alsop took the loss. The Kelsey's Flyers are on the road for their next three games. On September 26th they are in Fergus to face the Devils and on October 1st they visit their arch rivals from Penetang in their first regular season game. Flyers Players Help Support Childrens Aid Picnic
Midland Flyers captain, Brady Sluman, assistant captain, Josh Asselin and forward Tommy Tsicos volunteered their time at the Children's Aid Picnic at Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre on June 30th. The event was sponsored by General Mills of Midland. You can see the guys had a great time at this event and even poking some fun with the Pillsbury Doughboy! The Flyer players helped out at the canoe area, as well as mingling with the numerous children at the event. They gave away two autographed jerseys, which were well received by the recipients! Thanks Brady, Josh and Tommy for your committment to community and for your time spent at this worthy event. The children greatly appreciated it!!!!
